The manifestation of society’s Architecture is a social construct. It both reflects and reinforces in which manner we regard gender, race and social status. Deep-rooted in Architecture you will find firmly established sexism. A clear distinction between what is considered feminine and masculine. It is unquestionable that our society is built on the foundations of the binary.

What if you fall beyond the binary? What if your experience as an individual is to feel like a burden and a bother for society?

Unfortunately, this is the case for a majority of our Queer youth. My project reflects on the societal responsibility of Architects to include all pillars of society and cater to the LGBTQIA+ community from an architectural point of view. My design focuses on the precedent of creating a safe space for our queer youth, located on the base of The gay rights movement here in Iceland.
