In the role of the painter I imitate the forces which shape the earth, both adding to and removing from the surface of the image, according to what is appropriate. I seek what lies beneath and mould over it in the same way that I directly reference the cyclical nature of the natural world. This process reveals the time contained within the work. Sometimes objects or living creatures are preserved within the natural layers of the earth, where they form a cast of time and both the visible and invisible are an important part of a bigger whole.
