School opening hours
  • When can I work in the school? 
    • The school’s opening hours are between 8.00 and 17.00. You can access buildings with your access card after 17.00. Please be aware that the alarm goes on automatically at midnight.
  • What are the reception hours? 
    • Laugarnes Mon-Fri 8.00-16.00
    • Skipholt: Mon-Thursd 8.00-14.00, Fridays 8.00-13.00
    • Þverholt: Mon-Thursd 8.00-15.00, Fridays 8.00-13.00
  • Can I work in the building over the weekend?
    • You will need your code to access the buildings. 
Cards 
  • What do I do if my card doesn’t work? 
    • Contact your Service Coordinator/Reception for assistance
  • Where do I find the code for my card?
    • Please go to the reception to get your access code
Using school equipment - 
  • Who do I speak to about technical needs or equipment rental?
    • Contact your Service Coordinator. You will need to fill out a form and make a formal request
Rooms - 
  • Can I book a space? 
    • Your Service Coordinator can assist you with booking rooms
Transportations
  • Students can get a discount for Reykjavik’s bus system, i.e. Strætó. Contact Ásdís Þórisdóttir [asdisth [at] lhi.is ()] to make sure you're name and kennitala is on the student’s registry. Further information on how to get the bus card: https://ugla.lhi.is/kerfi/view/page.php?sid=1965 
Documents
  • Who do I contact about getting official documents e.g. for The Icelandic Student Loan Fund, signatures for grant applications or other certificates?
    • The Department Coordinators can assist you with supplying official documents. 
School fees
  • Who do I contact about paying fees? 
    • You can reach out to Sigurlaug Sæmundsdóttir at the financial office [Silla [at] lhi.is] if you have questions regarding your school fees.
    • If you need a confirmation of paid fees reach out to your Department Coordinator
Library 
  • Where are the different libraries in LHÍ? How many are there? Can I visit them all? 
    • The IUA library is a specialist library in the field of arts and design and the largest of its kind in Iceland. The Library has two locations. In Þverholt you will find material on Architecture and Design, Music and Performing Arts. In Laugarnes the material is on Fine Arts, Art Education and Performing Arts.

National Holidays 
  • What are the national holidays and when will the school be closed?
    • There are handful of national holidays in Iceland. You have an overview of when the school’s receptions are closed in your timetable in Ugla. Those days the buildings are locked but you can access them with your student cards and access code.

Ugla
  • Who do I contact about Ugla?
    • For technical assistance you can contact the IT department [ticket [at] hjalp.lhi.is]
    • If you need an assistance with your courses, i.e. check out of some and enter new ones, your Department Coordinator will assist you
Internet access - 
  • Who do I contact about getting internet access? 
    • At the beginning of your studies you receive an informative email on how to access IUA’s internet, connect to the printer and other helpful information

The Printer
  • Who do I contact if I have problems using the printer?

    • If you need to fill up your printing quota, your Service Coordinator will assist you
Alarm
  • Who do I contact if the school alarm goes off and no one is in the building?
    • Please be aware that the alarm goes automatically on at midnight in each building. You need to vacate before that.  
Studio hygiene
  • Who is in charge of leaving the studios in good condition?
    • The users of the studio are responsible for cleaning and leaving the facilities in good condition. 
Workshops
  •  Am I allowed to access the workshops? And what is the protocol for working in a workshop? 
    • The IUA owns and operates different workshop facilities which are available to specific departments in all three buildings. Please get familiar with their specifications and how to book an apointment here: https://www.lhi.is/en/workshops
Visa
  • Who can help with visa problems?
    • This depends what kind of assistance you need. Start with having a talk with our International Relations team and they will guide you further. You can read up on their services and how to contact them here: https://www.lhi.is/en/international
Mental health 
  • Who is the student counsellor? How do I contact them?
    • The main goal of the Student Counselling Services is empowering students to reach their personal, academic, and career goals regarding their studies. Read about the services here: https://www.lhi.is/en/student-counselling and reach out to our counsellors through namsradgjof [at] lhi.is
HR 
Attendance
  • What are the rules about attendance? 
  • The general rule is that there is an 100% obligatory attendance in courses, note if a student gets sick, he/she/they should notify teachers. 
Student council
  • Members of IUA’s student council are the student unions belonging to the school’s departments. The President of the Student Council is
