The pedestal can come in different sizes, shapes and manifestations depending on what the artwork requires of it. The pedestal is intended to elevate and disconnect the artwork from the immediate environment. It is created to serve the work of art completely. The pedestal allows the viewer to define the exhibit as art and the person as an artist. To strike the right tone for the environment so that the art can speak for itself and give the work its solemn stand. The artist is bound to the pillar just as the pillar is bound to the artist.
What is it to be an artist? Who defines the artist? Is it the artist himself or does it fall to the viewer? image creation is multifaceted. In part, an image is created at the same time as the artist places the work on the pedestal, but the result is shaped by the viewer. The pedestal is always there.
