Opnar málstofur tónsmíðanema 2019 - 2020: Örjan Sandred

Sænska tónskáldið Örjan Sandred fjallar um tónlist sína og tónsmíðaaðferðir í opinni málstofu tónsmíðanema. Fyrirlesturinn er á ensku.

Nánar:

Örjan Sandred (f. 1964) nam tónsmíðar við Konunglega tónlistarskólann í Stokkhólmi, McGill-háskólann í Montréal og við IRCAM-stofnunina í París. Hann hefur samið tónlist af margvíslegum toga, fyrir akústísk og rafræn hljóðfæri, stórar og smáar hljóðfærasveitir og einleikara. Á meðal flytjenda verka hans má nefna Sænsku útvarpshljómsveitina, Sinfóníuhljómsveitina í Winnipeg og The Pearls Before Swine Experience. 

Hann gegnir nú stöðu tónsmíðaprófessors við Háskólann í Manitoba í Kanada og hefur haldið fyrirlestra víða um heim svo sem við Harvard-háskóla, Berkeley-háskóla, Síbelíusarakademíuna í Helsinki og Tónlistarkonservatoríuna í Shanghai svo fátt eitt sé nefnt. 
 
Um fyrirlestur sinn segir hann:

„Ég hef skrifað nokkrar tónsmíðar fyrir kammerhópa og lifandi rafhljóð. Í hverju verki er skoðað hvernig tengja megi rafhljóðin við hin akústísku hljóðfæri og rýmið sjálft. Í verkinu Ice Fog fyrir saxófón, píanó og lifandi rafhljóð byggja rafhljóðin á smæstu blæbrigðum kleyftóna (multiphonics) og rafparturinn er búinn til úr því hráefni. Í verkinu Floe Edge fyrir óbó, bassatrommu og lifandi raftónlist notast ég við háværustu kleyftóna óbósins sem upphafspunkt og rafparturinn hreyfir við slagverkstónunum sem umlykja áheyrendur. Í Ghazal (arabísku ástarljóði) fyrir sópran og lifandi rafhljóði er byggt á ljóði eftir Gustaf Fröding - sálrænt inntakt ljóðsins umbreytist og sundrast í 8 rása hljóðrými."

A lecture with the Swedish composer Örjan Sandred at the Department of Music, IUA.

Further:
Örjan Sandred (b. 1964) is a composer of both instrumental and computer music. His instrumental works reach from music for Symphony Orchestra to solo instruments. Several of his later compositions show an increased interest in mixed music, where acoustic instruments are combined with live electronics.

Sandred is currently a Professor in Composition at the University of Manitoba in Canada, where he founded Studio FLAT - a studio for computer music research and production. 

Sandred's music is regularly performed in many countries around the world. During 2017 he will be featured in a portrait concert at the concerthall in Uppsala, Sweden. He is currently working on a commission for the French string quartet Quator Leonis.

Sandred's music is available on the CD "Cracks and Corrosion", releaased on the Navona lable in 2009.

About the lecture:

"I have written a number of pieces where live electronics are used in chamber music settings. Each piece explores a specific idea on how to connect the electronics with the acoustic instruments and the space. Ice Fog for saxophone, piano and live electronics investigates the softest nuances of multiphonics, and the live electronic part creates a soundscape from this source. On the Floe Edge for oboe, bass drums and live electronics uses the loudest multiphonics of the oboe as a starting point, and the electronics move the percussion sounds into the concert hall, surrounding the audience. A Ghazal connects to the text in a poem by Gustaf Fröding, and paints the mental state of the poem into an immersive 8-channel surround diffusion.” (ÖS)
