The exhibition ,,Becoming" opens in Naflinn, Laugarnesvegur 91 - September 30th at 8PM.

I am becoming

I have a body and i have a personality. The body is subject to time and therefore has problems. The personality is the bodies way of navigating through these problems. These problems include (but not limited to): Loneliness, hunger, cold, angst, anger, envy, heartache, toothache, sorrow, claustrophobia, cancer, decay, headache, violence and restlessness.

The mind is an entity that forms a bridge between the spirit (becoming, soul) and the body. The brain is not the mind. There is no need for any dualism – the body and the spirit are not at war; they are not even disconnected in any way. The spirit would have little to do had it no body to manifest in. The spirit is affected by the body in infinite ways - yet the body does not necessarily need to be aware of the spirit.

The body is also: a tool. What does the spirit want? Mostly what the body wants. Almost all of the spirits desires are unknown unknowns. The spirit is a desire machine, it creates desires. The body gains from this, but can easily be harmed by it. Is the Spirit-Body dualism unnecessary? Not as unnecessary as the Mind-Body dualism. Can this connection exist nondualistically? With harmonious individuals perhaps, doubtfully.

Christianity, with the symbolism of the son, the father and the holy spirit, can see God as the bridge between the body (Jesus) and the spirit (Holy). The body has taken the form of the mind, it is in accordance with the spirit. The spirit is best described as a dove. Its perceptions flickering and avare, its pace fast, its flight transcends gravity in a weightless glory, its stride restless. Its gaze blank and yearning, its feathers paler than the whitest clouds. Its essence fragile yet enduring, able to soar endlessly towards the horizon - dirty, filthy rat of the sky.

Personality is a constant becoming between our own demeanour and the views of others, a becoming between past and future. The Genders: Man and Woman are not, they become whenever someone experiences them. If one wants to affect the way their gender is read, they have to do it on the terms of gender binary dualism, or in direct oposition to it. Gender becomes — with a body in a space.
