In a place where the sea seems at rest
Styrmir Hrafn Daníelsson

The exhibition ,,In a place where the sea seems at rest" opens in Hulduland, Laugarnesvegi 91-  September 30th at 5-7PM.

I sit on a timber raft and I carve waves into the wood. Slowly, the shallow ripples take shape. My reference is an unclear memory of a place where the sea is always calm. At least as I remember it. Other memories of sea and calm waves enter my mind as I carve and influence my decisions. I allow my hands to work for me. Wave by wave I move along. I pour concrete into a mold. It slowly fills up with the viscous material. Soon the memory will be a solid.

The sea is always calmer there.
I sit on a wooden raft and I carve.
Wave by wave,
I move forward
ripple by ripple.
A memory takes shape.
