In the twentieth century, landowners in Iceland were rewarded by the government for draining wetlands and cultivating pastures instead.

Since then, new perspectives and information have come to light as man has begun to question the value of draining wetlands, as it is at the expense of biodiversity.

With the restoration of wetlands in Flóa, the emphasis is on building a national park where respect for the environment and education related to it is a priority, to draw attention to the importance of wetlands and their preservation.

In this way, the eco-village and the garden can be seen as a strategy that takes nature into account and the biosphere that benefits from it.
