Textíll líðandi stundar
Samræður í textílmennt um mikilvæg álitamál í samtímanum

This study outlines action-research in textile education in 8th grade.

The research was done in co-operation with Listrænt ákall til náttúrunnar which is an interdisciplinary development project by Dr. Ásthildur Jónsdóttir and Skóla- og Frístundarsvið Reykjavíkur. After five years of teaching, I wanted to challenge myself by examining my own work to improve dialogical practices in textile education.

The literature review revolves around the main sectors of philosophy:
The beauty- the ideas of beauty with an emphasis on aesthetics from the point of view of wabi-sabi.
The true - impact, development and status of textile in society and schools.
The good - teaching methods that promote maturity and growth of individuals with an emphasis on progressive and critical pedagogy in the spirit of John Dewey and Paulo Freires.

While conducting the research I relied on the analysis of research diaries, sound recordings and photographs.

The findings suggest that by being open minded to students’ ideas, dialogical practices can be used in the classroom to increase students’ knowledge, broaden their perspective and deepen their connection regarding textile in their environment. Making mistakes and finding the capacity to endure makes a valuable experience that contributes to each individual's personal growth.

Softness overcomes hardness and weakness conquers strength, everything is as it should be, completely imperfect.
