Alþing is a hybrid of a parliament and judiciary system that deals with matters of non-humans and recognises their rights, autonomy and agency. The parliament members and the representatives dwell with the forces of the elements of nature and form a stronger connection with the objective reality of Þyrilsnes. The architecture of the parliament reveals different time scales, from geological and astronomical time to biological time, enabling the users to come into contact with the materiality of the immaterial. The accommodation follows the flow of the landscape and touches the ground lightly, while the surfaces are habitats for different organisms. Alþing sheds light on and underlines the importance of the agency of nature, animals, matter, and other non-humans in past, present, and future contexts.
