The application process is in two steps; in the first step applicants fill out the application form, pay the application fee and submit the application. In the second step, applicants receive confirmation that IAA has received the application.
It is necessary to include a passport photo with the electronic form. The application fee is 5000 ISK. Please note: It is possible to save the application while working on it.
An application is not valid until the applicant has submitted the application and paid the application fee. Applicants must submit the following documents:
1.Certified copy of programme / course transcript(s) (PDF)
Applicant should submit a detailed record of previous education (final examination or university entrance examination) from secondary education, including programmes of study taken and grades achieved and it is preferable that they have finished Secondary stage in dance or comparible education. This may be submitted in Icelandic or English.
2. Statement of application.
Applicants must write a short explanation about their decision to apply for this specific programme and how the focus of the programme ties in with their aims towards a future professional role as a contemporary dance practitioner. Maximum length one page.
Admission committee chooses from a group of applicants, but besides an evaluation of the applications regarding to formal criteria, the selection is based on a practical audition and interviews:
a. Admission exam 1st step. First day: Technique classes in contemporary dance, ballet and improvisation. Solo work. Each applicant must prepar a one minute solo.
b. Admission exam 2nd step. Second day: Performance practices. Chosen applicants meet the admission committee for interviews.
Applicant should have finished Matriculation Exam or comparible education and it is preferable that they have finished Secondary stage in dance or comparible education.
Exceptions regarding intake - The IAA is allowed to accept students into the school that have knowledge and experience which is considered adequate preparation for BA studies within the school. It is though expected that the students shall have finished no less than 105 ECTS from the older system of the upper secondary school system or 150 ECTS according to the new system.
The BA Programme in Contemporary Dance Practices is an international programme conducted in English.
Students must be proficient in spoken and written English.
Auditions take place in Stockholm, Berlin and Reykjavík. Applicants choose one of the following locations to attend the auditions:
