Student Counselling Services

University studies demand independent work habits and analytical thinking. Student counselling specializes in helping students improve their study methods and efficiency.
The main goal of the Student Counselling Services is empowering students to reach their personal, academic, and career goals regarding their studies. Therefore the emphasis is to support students by assisting them with:

* Learning and academic skills challenges
* Mental health, healthy lifestyle and well-being
* Communication with faculty and staff
* Future vision and opportunities

Students are encouraged to contact the counselling service whenever they need it. The service includes individual sessions, group counselling, psychological interviews, lunch lectures, and services for students with special needs.
Counselling is a collaborative process where students can discuss anything they wish openly and confidentially. The student counsellor strives to find time for an appointment as quickly as possible. The student counselling office is in Þverholt 11 but the student counsellor meets students in other buildings when needed.

Students are advised to discuss issues regarding their study programme with their programme director. Departmental coordinators provide assistance and information about the study progress, number of credits etc.

Career Counselling Services

Career Counselling is a process that will help individuals to know and understand themselves and the world of work in order to make career, educational, and life decisions.
The student counsellor assists students in preparing for further education or work after the end of their studies at the IUA. Short courses, lectures and interviews on issues related to life after graduation are held.

Cooperation is with the IUA Alumni Association about organizing events for current students and alumni. One of the main goals of IUA Alumni is to strengthen the links between the former students and current students.
