Bjarki Bragason

 

Bjarki Bragason studied fine art at the Iceland Academy of the Arts, Universität der Künste Berlin and completed an MFA at the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles in 2010. In his work, Bjarki focuses on collisions in time, tracing paradigm shifts through investigating the site of shifts, be it in geology, botany or architecture. Bjarki has held numerous solo exhibitions and has participated in group exhibitions internationally. Among solo exhibitions are Past Understandings at the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and Desire Ruin at the Naturhistorisches Museum, both in Vienna, The Sea at the Schildt Foundation in Tammisaari and Part of a Part of a Part at the ASÍ museum in Reykjavik. Recent group exhibitions include KINGDOM: flora, fauna, fable at the Reykjavik Art Museum, Imagine the Present at St. Paul St. Gallery in Auckland and Infrastructure of Climate at Human Resources, Los Angeles. Bjarki has curated exhibitions and taken part in artistic research projects in collaboration with artists, architects, archeaologists and earth scientists. Since 2016 Bjarki is an assistant professor and BA programme director at the fine arts department at the Iceland University of the Arts.
