Bryndís H Snæbjörnsdóttir

 

Bryndís Snæbjörnsdóttir works collaboratively with the artist Mark Wilson. Their art practice is research based and socially-engaged, exploring issues of history, culture and environment in relation to both humans and non-human animals. Their artworks have been exhibited internationally and they have delivered papers at key conferences in fine art and animal studies worldwide. They are currently working with Anchorage Museum in Alaska on a long term research project, as part of ‘Polarlab’, and they are part of a cross disciplinary team of researchers into ‘plant blindness’ funded by the Swedish Science Council resulting in a site specific installation in the Botanical Garden in Gothenburg in 2017.

Bryndís is a Professor of Fine Art and the MA programme director at the Iceland Academy of the Arts. In connection with the research project Beyond Plant Blindness she is also a guest professor at Malmö Art Academy, Lund University. Together with Mark Wilson she was a Research Fellow at the Centre for Art + Environment, Nevada Museum of Art from 2013-2015. From 2009-2014 Bryndís was a Professor at Valand Academy and the main PhD supervisor in fine art from 2010-2015. She was a lecturer at Glasgow School of Art from 1996-2002 and the programme director for a new MA programme in digital media and fine art at Valand School of Art from 2002-2004. In 2009 she defended her PhD Spaces of Encounters: Art and Revisions in Human – Animal Relations at the Faculty of Applied, Performing and Fine Art, Gothenburg University. From 2014-2016 Bryndís has been a guest professor at the IAA and a guest lecturer in art theory at the University of Iceland.
