There have been more murders in Iceland than many seem to realise, and the murder scenes are spread around the island. The publication MENS REA is an abstract, visual report, mapping all the places in Iceland where murders have been committed in the 20th and 21st centuries. Methods of operation are sorted, along with categorisation of perpetrators and victims. Murder with intent is fundamentally an unacceptable crime and should never be considered a normal part of human society, no matter how low the frequency of murders in Iceland is in comparison with other nations. The publication is therefore a reaction to certain refrains  in public discussion, regarding the rarity of murder  in Iceland and the patriotism sometimes associated with that opinion.
