On Wednesday February 15th at 12:15 Alice Eldridge and Chris Kiefer give a lecture in lecture room A at Þverholt 11.

Alice Eldridge is a Research Fellow in Digital Technologies & Digital Performance and cellist. Her backgrounds in music, psychology (BSc), evolutionary and adaptive systems (MSc) and computer science and AI (PhD) inspires and informs systemic sound-based research across ecology, technology and music.

Chris Kiefer is a Lecturer in Music Technology, computer-musician and musical instrument designer. He specialises in musician-computer interaction, physical computing, and machine learning.

Participatory design (PD) is an approach to developing new technologies with rather than for users. The PD approach can help to create designs that fit the requirements of users and their communities, empowers stakeholders, and ensures relevance and longer-term adoption. However it can also present serious challenges to a design team when trying to engage with users 'in the wild'. We discuss our experiences of participatory design work with disabled children and with school orchestras as well as our Feedback Cello project where we act as both designers and users.
